AMORPHO-PHALLUS TITANUM
It took nine years for the Copenhagen Botanic Garden’s Amorphophallus titanum to bloom for the first time, in 2012. Since it may take up to 15 years between blooming, it was a sensation that, after just two years, in 2014, and then again, in 2016, the plant bloomed again. This lasts a couple of days up to a week. To make the most of it, both in terms of public outreach, media interest, spin-off, economic profit, and mere fascination and joy, we quickly showcased the flower to the interested audiences, printed postcards to be sold, designed signage and information leaflets, created a live pop-up-outdoor exhibition, and a time-lapse film following the growth and bloom via live-streaming.
